Bamboo Photography :: Studio Journal bio picture
  • Hello!

Welcome to the studio journal of Bamboo Photography. Photographing people is not just a job for me, it's also my passion; as in doing cartwheels across the lawn, grinning from ear to ear, heart fluttering, and in love. I see beauty in people, and my work is about connecting with that inherit beauty and celebrating the magical joy of childhood and love through fabulous imagery.

Based in Philadelphia with my husband and four children, I spend much of my time enchanted by little ones; both mine and yours. Occasionally I find time for traveling, picnics and nature walks, tea rendezvous, impromptu dance parties, and decorating our old house.

Here you'll find details on our sessions, decorating inspiration, tidbits on photography, and our family adventures. Have a look around and feel free to leave a comment ~ I'd love to hear from you!

PERSPECTIVE

Cloud Factory

As we drove by, my five year old was so excited to see the cloud factory.   What a fresh perspective.

Cherish your children and have a wonder-filled weekend!

P.S. Don’t forget you can still enter through Sunday morning to win a free facial!  See this post for details…

FLEETING

These photos remind me of how fleeting and precious childhood is.  How important it is to nurture our children and be in their presence each and every day.  Through nurturing them, they actually nourish our hearts and make us feel more centered, more alive, and more free.  If we follow their lead, we’ll learn how to live fully and reverently, where each task is given it’s full measure and there is abundant blessing in every single undertaking.  Make a playdate with your child, be their best friend, let them be the leader, and capture their spirit with a camera. They’ll be so glad you did.

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

BEAUTY, INSIDE & OUT :: FEATURE & GIVEAWAY

Sometimes I meet someone whose generosity and sweet spirit catches me off-guard.  That was the case with Danielle.  The more I got to know her, the more and more I adored her.   After beginning skincare treatments with her, I knew I had to share her skills with my readers!  I think it’s SO important for women, especially moms, who typically put themselves last, to take a moment to pamper their skin and nurture their feminine spirit.  I love how Danielle tuned in to my specific skin issues, and was so gentle and thorough, she was just a complete pleasure to work with.  I left feeling relaxed and utterly pampered! Danielle has very generously offered a fantastic giveaway (a full facial treatment!) to our readers, so make sure you look for the details at the bottom of this post!

I got together with Danielle and her husband to try and capture a little bit of her life and personality.

Check out her interview below

Please introduce yourself and your profession:
Danielle Causey – licensed clinical aesthetician

What services do you provide?
I provide medical skincare (dermaplaning, peels, microdermabrasion), laser hair removal, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), Isolaz (laser for acne), Pixel (laser resurfacing) and eyebrow shaping.

What attracted you to working in skincare?

What originally attracted me to working in skincare was the promise of flexibility but once I got into it, I realized how much I enjoyed making people look and feel good about themselves – that instant gratification and long term result was and is so satisfying.

What are the short term and long term benefits of your treatments?
My patients will see an immediate glow to their skin with dermaplaning and microdermabrasion.  We are essentially scraping off the dead, dull top layer of skin, revealing newer, healthier skin.  If we incorporate a peel, over the next 30 days, they will continue to turn over their cells on a cellular level.  Over time, these processes can help to diminish fine lines, age spots, hyperpigmentation and superficial scarring.

What are the most common skincare concerns among women?
Age spots (hyperpigmentation), fine lines (crow’s feet) around the eyes and mouth, enlarged pores.

What are the most common skincare mistakes?
1.  Over exfoliation or thinking that if 2-3 times per week of manual exfoliation is good then doing it everyday is good.  Too much exfoliation can harm the skin and lead to premature aging.

2.  Purchasing products from an infommercial rather than your trained and trusted skincare professional.

3.  Thinking that coming in for a treatment once a year is sufficient – keeping up with your skincare is maintenance and just like getting your haircut, you must keep up with it at least 4 times per year (I say when the seasons change) in order to maintain a healthy glow.

4.  Thinking that you only need to wear sunscreen in the summer – the sun does shine in the winter!

Do you have any advice for day to day skincare? (cleansing, moisturizing, masks, etc…)
Do not cleanse the skin more than twice a day – Nighttime being the more important because you are cleansing off the days dirt and makeup – over cleansing can strip the skin of its natural oils and throw your skin into an over production of oil causing breakout.

If your skin is breaking out, check makeup ingredients – you could have an allergy or sensitivity to talc or dimethicone or zinc oxide – common makeup ingredients that in an otherwise normal skin are fine but in acne prone skin can wreak havoc.

Find an exfoliator with gentle, spherical like beads in it (not the ones with walnut shells in them as they can harm the skin and cause broken capillaries) and use this 2-3 times per week.

Don’t waste your money on expensive, department store moisturizers – medical grade, results driven moisturizers are just as good, if not better, won’t clog your pores and will work for your while you sleep.

Join Danielle’s Facebook Page to learn more about her skincare services provided in Center City and Wayne, PA.  You can also reach her at (daniellecausey@comcast.net). Be sure to  enter to win  a complimentary facial valued at $150, see the bottom of this post for details on entering!

Aside from her full-time job as a skincare specialist, Danielle is also a very active animal rescuer!

Please share about the organization you’re working with:
All 4 Paws Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue based in Chester Springs, PA.  All 4 Paws Rescue, Inc. is made up of volunteers and foster homes that care for our available pets.  Most of our available pets have been rescued from “death row” from high-kill shelters and given a second chance at life.  Their goal is to find each and every one of these pets a safe, permanent and loving home.

What role do you play in the adoption process?
My husband and I are a “foster home” for All 4 Paws – we usually take 2 dogs into our home, (though we have 3 at the moment) in addition to our own 5.  We walk the foster dogs through our town and try to get exposure for them with their “Adopt Me” vests. We also do a lot of posting on Facebook and through my blog.  I have also been involved in transports – picking up rescued dogs in Delaware that are being transported from the south – we pick up sometimes 5-6 dogs and transport them to All 4 Paws headquarters.  A transport is a group of people who each take a leg of these dogs journey from either the shelter or their original foster home and drives them up to us – we then take them the rest of the way to the last leg of their journey and on their way to their forever home or another foster home.

Two of Danielle’s adopted pups…

What advice do you have for others who want to become involved?
Don’t overanalyze it.  Just jump in with both feet and do it.  This is BY FAR one of the most gratifying things you will ever do in your lifetime.  If you want to make a difference in this world and aren’t sure what you want to do, give this a try.  If you already have a dog (or 2 or 3), you really won’t be putting yourself out much.  The love and thanks you will get back from the dog and the new family is payback tenfold.

Advice for someone interested in adopting?
Go into adopting a dog with an open and clear mind.  Not only will you surprise yourself with who you might fall in love with but the dog that you fall in love with MAY NOT be absolutely perfect when you bring him or her home.  Given all of your love, respect and patience (something they may have never had) they may turn into the dog you have always dreamed of.

Tips on making sure an animal is a good match?

Kristen takes her time and does her very best to make sure that your lifestyle fits the dog that you are interested in.

Where can people learn more about volunteering and adopting?
They can visit the site
for information, or e-mail me (daniellecausey@comcast.net) or Kristen (all4pawsrescue@comcast.net) and we can tell you everything and anything you want to know about fostering or adopting.

I WISH I COULD BREAKDANCE

We stopped in Ardmore for First Friday and enjoyed some fantastic street performances.  This photo was taken by my 5 year old, he’s a little shy and loved having a reason to get close to the action.  Camera’s are cool like that.  They give us a reason to come out of our shell and get close, but they still let us hide behind them!

ENJOY your weekend!

P.S. What do you wish YOU could do???

BEAUTY IN LIFE

I wanted to write something really prophetic about seeing the beauty in life, but it’s simply too late (3:22 am) for me to be prophetic.  I just hope that I was able to capture some small reflection of the beauty that I see in these two dear souls.  I can’t wait to hold their little peanut in my arms, and capture his squishy sweetness.

I love the colors in these ones…

Beautiful, stunning, gorgeous!  Totally worth the mosquito bites.

Love this image of them…  Joey, do you ever get told you look like Rocky???
